Women’s Division 1 Volleyball Herts VC vs Bristol 1

Both teams are in the top half of National Division 1, a good result from either team would see them close in on third place in the table.


The first set easily goes to Bristol 25-15. Herts VC work hard to keep the score close in the opening rallies of the second set. Both teams defend well, Bristol were able to maintain a slender lead with the score at Bristol 8, Herts 6.


The Bristol squad were well organised and had effective answers to Herts offence. 9-8 to Bristol.


Herts were unable to hold off the scoring threat of Bristol 1’s women, and a five point Bristol run ended with Herts VC putting the ball out. 14-8 Bristol.


Herts string some serves together and force Bristol to play. Herts lead the second set 16-15. Bristol call a time out to talk it over.


The teams were putting on a gripping match, Bristol levelled the scores at 17-17. Bristol continued to make composed progress and developed a lead at 19-17.


Bristol were not immune to errors, with a couple creeping in to make the score Herts VC 19, Bristol 21.


Herts keep it close, but Bristol are able to take the second set 25-21.


Bristol take the first point of the third set, both teams continue to trade points. Bristol make it to 6 points to 4, Herts serve at 7-4 but lose the point. Bristol lead 8-4 and a time out is called.



Herts made a concerted effort to pull the score back. 10-6, 10-7, 10-8, Herts were succeeding.


Bristol stood their ground and fell back on their attacking prowess, add to this a few service faults from Herts VC and the scoreboard soon flipped over to Bristol 14, Herts VC 8.

Herts found it tricky to create attacks from effective positions on court, and Bristol were able to soak up the pressure.

Five points was as close as it got. Bristol took the third set 25-18 and the match in 3 straight sets.


Herts came to give Bristol a game, and acquitted themselves well. Bristol’s composure shone through with the stronger outfit getting the result in the end.
