Bristol Storm vs Bromsgrove Bears Women’s National League Basketball

This Division Two clash came after two early losses for the Bristol Storm while the Bears had performed a number on Bristol Storm Juniors the week before.

The Storm welcomed Bromsgrove to the Bristol Brunel Academy.

Bristol made a quick start top open the scoring. The Bears were able to draw fouls from the Storm and found themselves going to the line early. 3-2 Bromsgrove.

Both sides worked out the nerves by missing open shots early in the first quarter. After a Bristol layup to bring the score to 3-4 to Bristol Storm they called a timeout to talk over the opening to the match.

Despite this Bromsgrove still found themselves at the free throw line, but were only putting away half of their free throws. 4-4.

The Storm took their opportunities on the drive, as Bromsgrove seemed to be happy to score from the free throw line. 6-6.

Bristol No. 14 drilled a 3-pointer to open a gap between the Storm and the Bears. Bristol 9, Bromsgrove 6.

The Bromsgrove point guard was working hard to keep the Bears in touch, and was putting away shots. Bristol Storm 15, Bromsgrove 10.

Bromsgrove hoisted a three of their own, and were contesting the rebounds well. Bristol were putting away second chance shots making the score 13-17 to the Storm.

At the end of the first it was Bristol Storm 17, Bromsgrove Bears 15.

Bromsgrove came out firing to open the score in the second quarter. Bristol seemed to relax into the game during the second quarter, executing an inbounds play that the Bears had no answer for. 17-21 to Bristol.

After trading baskets, another time out. It was nip and tuck on the scoreboard, with the Bears point guard continuing to push. She was rewarded by collecting a foul whilst driving to the basket. Bromsgrove 22, Bristol 27.

The Storm swapped three players which seemed to rejuvenate the offence. Bristol were able to stick together a run that saw the score tick over to 25-37 for Bristol. A late three-pointer from Bromsgrove kept them in touch as the clock ran out at half time.

The visiting teams point guard started the second half as she had finished the first, draining a three-pointer. Not to be outdone, No. 14 for the Storm made a three of her own. Bromsgrove 32, Bristol 42.

Coming out of a time out, Bristol displayed some determined defence culminating in a big block from No. 54. Bristol 44, Bromsgrove 34.

Bromsgrove didn’t shy away from open shots, No. 12 making another three from the field. 37-46 to Bristol.

Going into the final quarter, Bristol stepped up the defence with No. 54 making another block on a Bromsgrove shot.

Bromsgrove were still driving hard and going to the line, one such three point play brought the score to 44-51 to the Storm.

Bromsgrove had difficulty dealing with the Storm offence, as it was now Bristol’s turn to go to the line. Each Bromsgrove foul sending a Bristol player to the line. Bromsgrove 44, Bristol 56.

Bromsgrove were worthy opponents, Bristol had the personnel and organisation that proved to be the difference.
